The Uttaranchal assembly on Friday was adjourned for the day amid noisy scenes as theĀ opposition demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N D Tiwari over the issue of revenue minister Harak Singh Rawat's alleged links with an unwed mother.

Rawat resigned on Thursday after an unmarried woman from Assam alleged on Thursday that he had fathered her child, which was born on Sunday.

Uproarious scenes were witnessed as the opposition members from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, trooped into the well of the house demanding the suspension of the question hour.

Shouting slogans demanding the resignation of Tiwari, they insisted that the issue be discussed immediately as Rawat had alleged that the chief secretary had conspired against him in the episode

He insisted that the report of the house committee, which investigated the affair, be tabled in the house.

Meanwhile, the state decided not to file an First Information Report even as Rawat pressed for a DNA test, Information Minister Indira Hridayesh said after a high-level meeting held at Tiwari's residence.
