Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has claimed that he was quoted out of context on the recurrence of Kargil-type of conflicts with India saying it was an attempt to project him as a 'war monger'.

"They are looking for an excuse to malign us, or to target me personally," he was quoted as saying by Indus TV, referring to the criticism in India of his remarks on Kargil in an interview with NDTV 24x7.

"The issue is what I said. I said 'if we don't resolve this (Kashmir) anything can happen'.Why are they pinning it on me as though I am going to do something. I am not going to do anything," he said.

Musharraf added that what he said was not an aggressive statement, but a statement of fact. But at the same time he said there is no guarantee that both India and Pakistan would not go to a fourth war in the future.

Musharraf, who will visit Britain, the United States, Germany and France, said that during his meeting with US President George W Bush, he would urge him to put more pressure on India to resolve the Kashmri issue.

"Any attempts to improve relations and deal with all issues by sidelining Kashmir will not work, it has never worked in the past," he said.

Asked what role the United States could play to defuse tension between India and Pakistan, he said the US leadership is doing its best but needed to do more to pressure India.

He said both India and Pakistan should begin talks and accept the need for Kashmir to be resolved to bring peace in the region, he said.

Musharraf also accused India of attempting follow a coercive policy towards Pakistan.
