Naxalites of the outlawed People's War group attacked Addanki police station in Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Wednesday and looted 24 muskets and 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

State police spokesman Shujath Ali told rediff.com that the incident occurred around 0230 IST.

A group of 30 armed persons reportedly belonging to the Chandravanka dalam (armed squad) of the PWG descended on the police station in the south coastal district of Prakasam.

They overpowered three police constables, including one who was on sentry duty, before looting the arms and ammunition.

They blew up the premises before leaving.

The attackers said they were registering their protest against the killing of their comrades in what they termed as fake encounters by the police.
