One person was killed and at least 25 others injured as 14 coaches of the Patna-New Delhi Magadh Vikramshila Express derailed in the Baruna-Parasi section of Danapur division early on Sunday morning, railway sources said.
One person succcumbed to his injuries at the Buxar Sadar Hospital, while the condition of one of the 25 injured is stated to be serious, a hospital source said.
The mishap took place around 0340 IST at a railway bridge on a dried pond at Parasia village, about 8 km from Buxar, East Central Railway chief spokesman A K Chandra said. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, he added.
ECR General Manager R S Varshney, Danapur Division Railway Manager P K Goel and Senior Divisional Commercial Officer Neeraj Ambastha have reached the accident site.
A special relief train with doctors, technicians and relief material has been rushed to Buxar from Danapur, while another is being sent from Mughalsarai, Chandra said.
The bogies that derailed included six sleeper coaches, five general bogies, one AC II, one AC III and an SLR van, a Danapur railway spokesman said.
