I know the ultras held with Rs one mn: Geelani
July 31, 2003 22:45 IST

Senior separatist and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday admitted he knew the two militants arrested by the Delhi Police with Rs one million.

But he denied the money was meant for him.

"The two are known to me but I have no knowledge when they proceeded to Delhi and for what purpose," Geelani told PTI in Srinagar.

"Saifuddin Bhat is my neighbour and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh had met me in a jail in 1965. This is my proximity with them," Geelani said.

He, however, rejected Delhi Police's claim the money recovered from Bhat and Sheikh was meant for him. "Such baseless charges were being framed to curb the activities of all those who represent the voice of people and the cause for Kashmiri people and to achieve the right of self-determination," he said.
