A little over three months after the Rajasthan government clamped down on distribution of trishuls (tridents), an outfit has made plans to distribute axes among the people.

The Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha, spearheading a demand for reservations under the Other Backward Class category for the community of priests, has decided to present pharsas (pick-axes) to its volunteers to impart a touch of aggressiveness to their agitation, state chief of the outfit Suresh Mishra said in Jaipur on Monday.

"Holding of pharsa - the weapon of Lord Parshuram - by Brahmins is an expression of our anger against our community's neglect," Mishra said.

About 100 volunteers, including a woman, were on Sunday presented pharsas at a ceremony in Jaipur, he claimed.

"We shall be presenting pharsas to 100,000 volunteers all over the state seeking their commitment to the cause of reservations," Mishra said.
