In a pre-dawn attack, heavily armed militants on Monday targetted an army camp in the Bandipora area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, police sources said in Srinagar.

No one was hurt in the attack by unidentified militants on Rashtriya Rifles personnel camping at Kaloosa village around 0210 IST.

Militants fired rockets, grenades and heavy and light arms at the troops for about half-an-hour, the sources said.

Later, a band saw belonging to Mohammad Abdullah Khan and the house of Ghulam Mohammad Dar and his brother Ghulam Hassan Dar were completely damaged in two powerful blasts in the village in the morning, the sources said.

The villagers accused the security personnel of blasting the band saw and the house and roughing up locals in retaliation to the attack on their camp, the sources said.

But the army denied the charge and said the fleeing ultras had laid three powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target the troops.

The troops detected the IEDs and informed the bomb disposal squad.

While two IEDs exploded damaging the band saw and a house, another was neutralised by experts, a defence spokesman said.

A search operation was launched in the village after the attack, the sources said.
