The Pakistan government has allotted 12,000 acres to the families of the soldiers killed in the Kargil conflict.

"The army had demanded 31,000 acres of land to accommodate the relatives of soldiers who were killed during the Kargil war with India, but the provincial government has allotted 12,000 acres of land in various districts," Punjab Minister for Colonies Manazir Ali Ranjah was quoted as saying in The News daily.

He, however, was not sure how many soldiers' families would be accommodated.

There has been no official acknowledgement yet on the number of the army personnel killed in the conflict.

The army is reported to have honoured the dead soldiers with posthumous medals in 2000.
