Four accused in the sensational Godhra train carnage case were on Friday granted bail by the Gujarat high court, which, however, refused to enlarge two other co-accused.

Justice C K Buch granted bail to Mohammed Hussain Kalota, Siraj Jamsa, Salim Sheikh and Mohammed Geteli but stayed its order for four weeks as the government pleader sought time to appeal before the Supreme Court against the order.

While Kalota is a former president of the Godhra civic body, Sheikh is employed as a collection clerk at a transport credit society there, sources in Godhra said.

"The court also granted a certificate under Article 134(A) read with Article 134 (1)(A) of the Constitution that it was an important case fit to be examined by the Supreme Court," advocate P M Thakkar, appearing on behalf of the accused, told PTI.

The investigating team has 'no evidence' against the accused, Thakkar contends adding out of nearly 150 witnesses examined so far, only one has named them.

He pointed out that despite invoking the Prevention of Terrorism Act, no charge sheet has been filed under the anti-terrorism law and the accused have been languishing in jail for one and a half years.
