Rains disrupt rescue work in Warangal

July 02, 2003 22:23 IST

Heavy rain in Warangal, where the Secunderbad-bound Golconda Express fell off a railway overbridge on Wednesday morning killing at least 22 people, has slowed down rescue work considerably.

Senior railway officials said it has been raining off and on in Warangal since morning making it difficult for rescue workers to look for survivors inside damaged bogies.

The track clearance work, officials said, has also suffered because of the downpour.

Hydraulic cranes are being used to lift the engine from the main road where it is diagnoally placed and gas cutters
employed to gain entry into the coaches.
