A police constable who was on duty in front of the American Centre in Kolkata when it was attacked early in the morning of January 22, 2002, identified the photograph of one of the terrorists involved in the strike.
Subhra Shankar Jana, a constable of the Fifth Battalion of Kolkata Armed Police, told the 11th bench of the city session court on Friday that he was nearing the end of his night shift in front of the American Center. He told Judge P L Dutt that he heard gunshots while wating to hand over charge.
Jana said he saw a pillion rider firing on policemen from a motorcycle. The attackers were moving from north to south along the Jawarharlal Nehru Road. He identified the photograph of the pillion rider and his chocolate coloured jacket.
Jana also identified the photographs of three victim constables of fourth battalion with whom he was on duty before the American Center.
Prime accused Aftab Ansari and eight others were also present in the court today.
Five policemen were killed and 20 others injured in the attack.
