The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress seem to be wooing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the Sattankulam assembly by-election in Tamil Nadu in February.

BJP national secretary L Ganesan said he had met DMK president M Karunanidhi on Thursday. "We inquired about the health of Commerce and Industry Minister Murasoli Maran. Politics was also discussed," he said in Chennai on Friday.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Balakrishnan went one step ahead and said that the party will seek the DMK's support for the by-poll.

All India Congress Committee secretary Naresh Raval, who was in town, said the party will appeal to the DMK voters.

Balakrishnan seems to have buried the hatchet with TNCC working president E V K S Elangovan on this count. He said the state party leadership, which will meet on Saturday, will decide on the strategy for the by-election.

The Tamil Nadu assembly, meanwhile, paid homage to Mani Nadar, the legislator from Sattankulam who death necessitated the by-poll. Speaker K Kalimuthu paid tributes to Nadar and 10 former legislators.
