In a major success, India has secured the deportation of the main accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast Imran Rehman Khan from Dubai and he was flown to Mumbai on Thursday night.

On his arrival by an Air India flight, Khan was questioned by a team of Intelligence Bureau officials regarding his involvement in the blast, police sources said.

Rehman's role came to the fore after police probed the cell phone usage of one of the four accused persons arrested in the case. Rehman had allegedly made several calls from the UAE directing the latter to carry out the blast in a crowded place.

With the help of intelligence agencies, the police secured details of Khan's passport (T-984468, issued in Tamil Nadu) after which the Ministry of External Affairs took up the matter with the United Arab Emirates.

He had fled to Dubai in October last year after hatching the conspiracy to trigger the blasts.

On December two, an explosion ripped through a BEST bus outside the crowded Ghatkopar railway station leaving two persons dead and 31 injured. Property worth Rs one million (Rs 10 lakh) was destroyed in the incident.

The Mumbai police had arrested four persons -- Mohammed Abdul Mateen Abdul Baseed, Sayeed Khwaja Yunus Sayeed Khwaja Ayub, Shaikh Mohammed Muzamil Zamil Ahmed and Zaheer Ahmed Bashir Ahmed Shaikh.

However, Khwaja Ayub escaped on January seven when the vehicle carrying him to Aurangabad met with an accident.
