The Karnataka police has slapped a case against Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Pravin Togadia for "creating communal disharmony" by his speech at Chikmagalur recently, an official said on Monday.

"A case has been registered under section 153A [of the Indian Penal Code]," Chikmagalur district Superintendent of Police K Ramachandra Rao told the Press Trust of India over phone.

Togadia had made the speech during the 'Datta Jayanti' celebrations at Bababudanagiri, the Hindu-Muslim hill shrine in Chikmagalur district.

At the rally organised by the VHP and Bajrang Dal, Togadia had reportedly demanded that the state government permit installation of a Datta idol at the shrine.

Attacking Islamic "fundamentalism and terrorism", he had also reportedly warned that Bababudanagiri would turn into another Ayodhya if government did not allow installation of a Datta idol.
