Countrywide toll in cold wave nears 120

Cold wave has claimed twenty-six more lives in Uttar Pradesh, pushing the countrywide toll close to 120, even as several parts of northern India continued to shiver on Monday.

With this the toll in UP touched 87, followed by Bihar at 11.

Icy winds continued to pound UP, where Kanpur experienced the coldest day of the season with mercury plummeting to 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar shivered at minus five degrees Celsius as the entire Kashmir valley reeled under intense cold.

Shimla enjoyed a sunny day while Bhuntar in Himachal Pradesh groaned under minus one degree Celsius.

Delhiites woke up to yet another chilly morning, as fog blinded the national capital disrupting flight and train schedules.

Visibility on the runway was reduced to zero from 0500 IST to 0835 IST, resulting in delay of flights.

Minimum temperature fell by one degree Celsius in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, where the chilly weather has so far consumed six lives.

Mount Abu recorded a low of two degrees Celsius followed by Ganganagar at three and Bikaner at four degrees.

In Bihar, cold wave conditions worsened with mercury plummeting to nine degrees below normal in Patna.
