Dara Singh and 12 other accused in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons on Thursday afternoon attacked prison officials at the Choudwar jail in Cuttack district, sources in the police control room told rediff.com.

Dara Singh and the others were on a hunger strike since the last two days demanding basic facilities. They are lodged in the jail as undertrials.

On Thursday afternoon, they announced withdrawal of the strike and sought an audience with the prison superintendent.

When they were brought before the jail superintendent, they attacked him and other officials present.

At least two prison officials, including the jail superintendent, sustained injuries.

District police and administrative officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Following the incident, Dara Singh and the others have been shifted to a special cell in the prison, the source said.
