Deputy Chief of General Staff, People's Liberation Army, Gen Wu Quanxi, will arrive in Kolkata on Friday to visit the Indian Army's Eastern Command headquarters.

He is the seniormost Chinese military official to visit the command HQ after the 1962 conflict.

Heading a high-level military delegation, Wu will hold parleys with Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen J R Verma.

Wu's visit assumes significance in the backdrop of the recent visit of General Officer Commanding, 4 Corps, Lt Gen Rajendra Singh to the Tibetan capital of Lhasa.

4 Corps oversees border security in the upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh.

During its six-day stay in India, the Chinese delegation will call on Defence Minister George Fernandes.

The delegation will also hold talks with an Indian Army delegation led by Deputy Chief of the Army Staff Lt Gen Ashok Chaki.

The Chinese delegation will also visit Air Force Academy in Hyderabad and the Rajputana Rifles regimental centre in Delhi.
