The Bihar police have come across clues that indicate that Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the fake stamp paper scam, had links with the state.

The Economic Offences Wing of the police found evidence about the existence of a printing press in Patna that was run by Telgi and his associates, Director General of Police D Ojha said on Tuesday.

The printing machine was shifted to Kolkata after functioning for four years in Patna.

The DGP said in view of the interstate and international ramification of the scam, he had recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the affairs of the gang in Bihar.

Fake non-judicial stamps, stamp papers and fake foreign currency notes worth rupees several lakhs were seized in Patna about a month ago and the local police had registered a case.
