Bihar Director General of Police D P Ojha's description of jailed Member of Parliament Mohammed Shahbuddin and few legislators of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal and other parties as 'criminal politicians' has stirred a hornet's nest.

RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav warned the police chief 'not to cross his limits'. "Ojhaji ko limit me rehna chahiye (Ojha should not cross his limits)," he said.

He said the DGP should work more and speak less. The top cop, he added, had no right to make public speeches against politicians.

Ojha while addressing a gathering at Sonepur fair in Saran district on Friday had lamented that power in Bihar had gone into the hands of hoodlum politicians.

He had reportedly named incarcerated Shahbuddin as the head of kidnapping gangs in Bihar and also spoke adversely against RJD legislators Surendra Yadav and Azad Gandhi, both accused in kidnapping and torture of a Gujarat-based businessman Atul Prakash early this year.

He also reportedly spoke against expelled Samata MLA Sunil Pandey, currently in jail in connection with a kidnapping case and Lok Janshakti Party MLA Rama Singh, absconding from police in connection with some criminal cases registered in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

On an earlier occasion, the DGP had spoken about corruption in police force saying in public perception about 80 per cent of policemen in Bihar were corrupt.

He had also announced steps to disband the Bihar Police Association.
