India's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Shiv Shankar Menon, on Saturday presented his credentials to President Pervez Musharraf, marking the restoration of full diplomatic relations severed after the December 13, 2001, terrorist attack on Parliament.

Menon, 53, a career diplomat who served as India's ambassador to China before taking up the new assignment, was presented a guard of honour by a contingent of the Pakistan Army on arrival at President's House.

The national anthems of the two countries were played on the occasion.

Menon, who arrived in Islamabad on July 15, and Musharraf also discussed matters of mutual interest.

The two countries agreed to restore full diplomatic ties after Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said in April that he would make a final bid for peace.

Pakistan High Commissioner Aziz Ahmed Khan, a career diplomat who last served as Pakistan's foreign office spokesperson, has already assumed his office in New Delhi.
