The noose around controversial MP Mohammed Shahabuddin further tightened on Friday when a Siwan court ordered attachment of his property even as Bihar's Director General of Police D P Ojha ordered his arrest in a third case of abduction and suspected murder.

Following a police plea, Chief Judicial Magistrate Sushil Kumar Sinha allowed attachment of ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal MP's property for evading arrest.

The CJM had on August 1 turned down a similar plea by investigating officer Shivnath Chaudhary, but had allowed the police to publish a written proclamation, under the Criminal Procedure Code, asking Shahabuddin to appear before the court in a month's time.

On Friday, DGP D P Ojha ordered his arrest in connection with the abduction and suspected murder of CPI-ML activist Chote Lal Gupta in Siwan district four years ago.

Gupta was abducted from near a railway crossing in Siwan district on February 5, 1999.

Shahabuddin and two others are accused in the case lodged in the Hussainganj police station under section 364 of the Indian Penal Code (kidnapping a person with intention to murder).

IGP (headquarters) Neelmani told PTI in Patna that the DGP has ordered the Siwan police to procure an arrest warrant against Shahabuddin and his associates.

The DGP also ordered the execution of an arrest warrant against Shahabuddin in yet another case being probed by the state's Criminal Investigation Department.

According to the case, lodged with the Siwan rural police station by the then sub-divisional police officer (Sadar area) Sanjeev Kumar, Shahabuddin and his associates allegedly prevented a police team from arresting Thakur Manoj Kumar Rana, alias Pappu, who was wanted in two cases.

The case charges the MP and his men with abusing and assaulting the SDPO and opening fire to intimidate him.

In another development, Rana, allegedly involved in the abduction and suspected murder of CPI-ML worker Munna Chaudhary in 2001 and attack on a police officer, on Friday surrendered before the CJM, Siwan.

CJM S K Sinha rejected his bail application in both cases and remanded him to judicial custody.

Jawahar Chaudhary, another associate of Shahabuddin and an accused in the Munna Chaudhary abduction case, was recently arrested by a special task force of the Bihar Police.
