However, no casualties or injuries were reported.

According to a police official at the Bicholim police station, the last five bogies of the train derailed due to a crack in one of the rails.

The derailed bogies comprised four packed with about 300 passengers and the guard van. They were detached and the train left for Mangalore at 0417 IST with all the passengers.

No KR Corporation official was available for comment, but the police informed that the work of removing the derailed bogies from the track would be completed by 1700 IST on Friday.

Trains running on the route were delayed or have been rescheduled.
