Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir were on Thursday put on high alert following two wireless intercepts that the Lashkar-e-Tayiba was planning a suicide attack during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's two-day visit to the state.

The first intercept revealed that terrorists would try to carry out an attack during the prime minister's public functions.

The second called for a 'high-profile' action during Vajpayee's visit to Qazigund in south Kashmir, where he would lay the foundation stone of a railway bridge.

Police and other agencies were monitoring the situation and all precautionary measures had been taken, a senior official said.
