A lower court in Ajmer has rejected the bail application of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia, who was arrested on Sunday night for violating prohibitory orders and distributing tridents, which are banned in Rajasthan, to VHP and Bajrang Dal workers at a dharma sabha.

While rejecting the application, moved by Togadia's counsel Onkar Singh Lakhawat, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Indu Pareek on Wednesday extended his judicial custody till April 30.

Togadia, who is lodged in the Central Jail, was brought to the court under heavy police protection.

After hearing arguments from Lakhawat, Pareek reserved her order.

She announced the order after two hours, saying only a sessions court could hear the case, which was registered under section 121-A [waging war against the Government of India] of the Indian Penal Code.

VHP leaders said they would continue to distribute tridents despite the ban.
