The Kapoors once owned a home in Baga, Goa: Love House, which the family would visit every Christmas and whenever they could take off from their busy lives.

Shashi Kapoor was born as Balbir Raj but his mother Ramsarni did not like the name and began calling him Shashi, or moonbeam, since he would spend hours watching the moon, Aseem Chhabra writes in his biography, Shashi Kapoor: The Householder, The Star.

Shashi got his first movie role in the first film his eldest brother Raj Kapoor directed, Awara.

Though he produced the critically acclaimed Junoon, Kalyug, 36 Chowringhee Lane and Vijeta, Shashi did not taste commercial success.
He tried his hand at direction, but Ajooba unfortunately tanked.

Shashi was so close to Ismail Merchant and James Ivory that he would often bail them out.

When Heat and Dust ran into financial trouble, Ivory recalled, 'Shashi ended up paying the hotel bills.'
