From 2005's Yahaan to his latest film Gulabo Sitabo , Director Shoojit Sircar has had an eventful movie journey.
He has seen a good mix of critical acclaim and commercial success.
With each of the characters he has worked with, a new world has been created.
Joginder Tuteja takes a look at the different worlds he has created through his films.
Gulabo Sitabo
Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurranna are a casting coup in Gulabo Sitabo.
Shoojit Sircar gave his first hit with Ayushmann in Vicky Donor while he has worked with Amitabh in the unreleased Shoebite as well as Piku. He also produced PINK.
Piku
Shoojit's biggest grosser till date.
He got together a terrific cast in Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan and created a lovely slice-of-life story.
PINK
PINK -- which Shoojit produced and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury directed -- was a courtroom drama which emphasied that 'NO means NO'.
Besides Bachchan, actresses Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang were a revelation in the film.
Madras Cafe
Madras Cafe was John Abraham's first patriotic film.
John and Shoojit are expected to collaborate on yet another project soon.
Vicky Donor
Before Madras Cafe, John produced Vicky Donor for Shoojit, a film that introduced Ayushmann Khurranna in the movies.
No one could have imagined a film made on sperm donation, but Juhi Chaturvedi's script, Shoojit's story-telling and Ayushmann's innocence makes it a must watch.
October
Though Varun Dhawan has made his career out of hardcore commercial films (except for Badlapur), he experimented with October, arguably Shoojit's most sensitive film.
It was not a major commercial success, but gained considerable critical acclaim.
Running Shaadi
It was unfortunate that Running Shaadi was stuck, as a result of which its eventual release went unnoticed.
Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu starred in this sweet love story, which is finding popularity on the OTT medium today.
Yahaan
Shoojit found recognition with his directorial debut, Yahaan.
Shot in Kashmir with Jimmy Sheirgill playing a soldier and Minissha Lamba a Kashmiri woman, the film was noticed for its technical brilliance and sensitive performances.
Amitabh Bachchan in Shoebite
Will we ever get to watch Shoebite?
The film, starring Amitabh, has been stuck for years now.
Earlier titled Johny Walker, the film was completed in tough outdoor schedules in the mountains.
Udham Singh
In this realistic drama based on the life of revolutionary Udham Singh, Vicky Kaushal steps in under Shoojit's wing.
Announced a year ago, it is being planned for the Republic Day week release in 2021.
