Kanyakumari Express, a failed mission

Just when we thought Suresh Gopi had gone into a second hibernation, he comes riding on director T S Suresh Babu's Kanyakumari Express.

Mohan Sankar (Suresh Gopi) is a cop from a family of carpenters. We see him indulging himself in his family occupation while pretending to be heading the anti-terrorism squad as a deputy inspector general of police. Mohan seems to be a dejected man as he banters with the chief minister (Jagathy Sreekumar), telling him that he is at a beach preventing terror attacks and tries to

convince the minister by scraping wood to produce the sound of waves.

The CM orders him to report to him immediately. Even then, it takes time for things to turn serious.

The CM assigns him the task of carrying ransom to the kidnappers of the daughter of a rich businessman before the media find out, as it could adversely affect the upcoming by-elections.

Even Babu Antony's entry a while before the interval does not improve things. That leaves Suresh Gopi with the responsibility of carrying the film till the end. He uses humour with the tough-cop image.

In the end, Kanyakumari Express leaves us wondering what made Suresh Gopi agree to do this project. Was it the promising premise or the fancy title? Whatever it was, the film has failed him.
