Vidya Balan and Director Amit V Masurkar working together is reason enough to be excited about Sherni, notes Moumita Bhattacharjee.

The fact that Sherni is directed by Amit V Masurkar -- the man behind Newton -- is reason enough to be excited about the trailer.

Plus, there's Vidya Balan who has a knack for picking up unique stories.

While the trailer falls short of creating interest in the film, you want to watch it when it streams on Amazon Prime Video on June 18 because Masurkar doesn't disappoint.

Vidya plays a jaded forest officer who has been tasked to capture a man-eater tigress.

But it isn't as simple as it sounds.

While the tigress eludes capture, man-made and natural obstacles emerge as her biggest roadblocks.

Will she get the tigress or the one who is using the hunt for their own means?

Masurkar's movies have the distinct flavour of forests and their tribes.

Newton had it and so does Sherni. That makes these movies extremely rooted to the soil.

What begins as a tiger hunt transforms into an administrative hurdle with everyone getting involved for their own gain.

It does make us believe the film will have a trajectory that will try to show many aspects of the story.

What also works here is that not much is known about Sherni's story so the trailer comes across as quite fresh.

The bureaucracy meddling with forest resources is a story we have seen in several movies. Defiant tribals is also a trope we have watched a lot.

It remains to be seen how Masurkar weaves these plot points to give Sherni a new meaning.
