After the success of Barfi!, director Anurag Basu may base his next film on mathematician Anand Kumar and his famous Super 30 programme, which grooms talented students from underprivileged families for the prestigious IIT institutions.
"He has met Anand Kumar in Patna," says a source. "It will make a great story of how students from poor families turn into a new leaf because of the right opportunitiesĀ -- something even reservation and other incentives have not been able to do."
Anurag met Anand Kumar to understand how he works and the extent of his reach in the field of mathematics. Anurag has collected enough information on Anand Kumar, including his research work published in international journals and the success of his students.
If the project comes through, Ranbir Kapoor may play Anand Kumar on celluloid.
"Both Basu and Kapoor have been researching the life of Anand Kumar, how he groomed 30 students at his own cost for over a decade, his style of teaching etc," said the source.
Though Ranbir and Basu are keen on the Kishore Kumar biopic, it would take time to complete the project.
Incidentally, much of Amitabh Bachchan's character in Prakash Jha's Aarakshan was modelled on Anand Kumar. Jha had taken Anand's help and recorded his lecture for Bachchan. During his visit to Patna, Bachchan had also met Anand and acknowledged his teaching methods.
