Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati has been immersed in controversies since it was announced, with fringe Hindu organisations taking umbrage at one aspect of the film or another.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was slapped.

The Karni Sena burnt posters of Padmavati. Later, they threatened to stall the release of the film.

ThePadmavati sets in Kolhapur were burnt down.

Two days ago, a beautiful rangoli of Deepika Padukone's look as Rani Padmavati in the film, made by Karan Jariwala, an rangoli artist from Surat, was destroyed.

Deepika is understandably miffed and has raised her voice against this petty act of vandalism. She tagged Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani in her tweets:

'Absolutely heart breaking to see the recent attack on artist Karan and his artwork!disgusting and appalling to say the least!,' she wrote sharing the picture of Karan with the rangoli.

She added, 'Who are these people?Who is responsible for their actions? For how long are we going to let this go on?'

'Allow them to take law into their own hands & attack our freedom & right to individual expression time & again!?,' she further continued.

'This has to stop NOW & action must be taken!@smritiirani.'
