The Star Wars franchise is all set to get a 3D treatment.

Filmmaker George Lucas will re-release the 3D versions, beginning with The Phantom Menace in 2012.

After that, each film would be released in order at the same time in consecutive years, depending on how well the first re-release does, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Lucas claimed that James Cameron's Avatar convinced him that Star Wars was ready for the state-of-the-art 3D treatment.

Lucas' films would use several higher-end conversion houses to work on the project. By 2012, the exhibition industry in the US should have all the 3D screens anyone could want for such a release.

Sounds good, doesn't it? If there is a catch, it is that we will have to endure 3-D Jar Jar Binks before we get to 3-D Darth Vader and 3-D Han Solo.

While Lucas will kick off with The Phantom Menace, which Star Wars film would you have liked to see first in 3D? Tell us!
