It has been a long wait for Kamal Haasan fans, who are anxiously waiting for his magnum opus, Dasavathaaram. And finally, the film's release date has been announced.
'Oscar' Ravichandran, the film's producer, confirmed that Dasavathaaram will be released on June 6. "That is an auspicious day and that is why I chose it," he said.
Kamal will don 10 different avatars, like the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu, in the film. The team of Dasavathaaram went from one country to another and one period to another to shoot the film, and the making took two long years.
The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi with 1,000 odd prints, the highest number of prints the Tamil film industry has seen so far.
"I can assure that no Indian film is released so far with these many numbers," Ravichandran says confidently.
For the first time, again, an Indian film will have a worldwide release in the true sense -- it will release in 60 centres in the US, 70 centres in Malayasia, five in Singapore, 25 in Sri Lanka, eight in Dubai, four in South Africa, 18 in Canada, 25 in London, five in Australia and two in France. About 20-25 prints will be sent to various other countries too, Ravichandran informs us.
"Everything about Dasavatharam was enjoyable and gigantic," Ravichandran adds. "No other actor in the world, except Kamal Haasan, can do something like this. Doing so many roles in a film; it is simply amazing. I was bowled over by the script and I immediately agreed to produce the film. I must thank Kamal for making me a part of such a film."
On the day of the film's release, Ravichandran will feed 1,000 poor children in Chennai. "I have been doing this for 20 years. Before the release of all my films, I feed poor children. It is not something special for Dasavathaaram."
Another custom that he always follows is taking a print to Tirupati to seek the blessings of Lord Balaji. "I go to Tirupati every week. I have never released a film without the Lord's blessings," he says.
How does he expect people react to the film? "From now, people would demarcate the history of films like 'before Dasavathaaram and after Dasavathaaram. This will be an encyclopedia on cinema. Filmmakers will study this film like a book," he concludes.
