'Shah Rukh kneeled in front of me'
November 03, 2005 20:19 IST

Shah Rukh Khan turned 40 on November 2, and when we asked readers if they had met SRK, the response was overwhelming.

Have you met SRK? Tell us!

Here are a few more words from the world's luckiest fans:

Tushna Master: One day, I went to Famous Studios, Mahalaxmi, (in Mumbai) with my uncle and aunt, to see the shooting of a Pepsi commercial starring Shah Rukh Khan.

I reached there at about 10 am. SRK hadn't arrived yet. I was sitting in the common artists' room, when suddenly, one of the model coordinators came up to me and asked if I would like to be one of the extras in the shoot.

I immediately agreed! I was given a golden coloured sharara and lots of jewellery to wear. I enjoyed every moment that I wore it! I was supposed to be a bride in the ad. It really made me feel like one, for that day of the shoot!

After I was dressed, I was sitting patiently for SRK to arrive. He arrived in the evening, directly from the airport. The moment I got the news of his arrival, my heart started beating faster than normal. Then, my uncle took me to SRK's greenroom, to meet him before the shoot began.

'I met SRK before he became a star'

I took my camera and autograph book and went in. The moment I saw him, I was speechless! I was on seventh heaven! He asked my name, and I told him. Seeing me in that costume, he asked me if I was in the ad too. I replied that I was. Then I requested him for his autograph and to have a photograph taken with him! He agreed to it. When he stood next to me for the picture, I almost blanked out! I just couldn't believe that this was actually happening!

When I returned home, I just couldn't sleep! I was so thrilled to have just stood next to SRK! But me story doesn't get over there.

Since I was part of the shoot, I was called the following day again. But, luckily for me, I wasn't in the picture on the second day. Since my previous day went so well, I thought I'd take a chance and carry a candle that I had made especially for SRK!

On that day, SRK arrived in the afternoon. I went to his greenroom with my gift. I was a bit scared, as I wasn't aware whether he would accept it from an unknown person. There were about five people sitting with him, and they gave me a 'What are you doing in here?' look. I excused myself and gave the gift to SRK.

To my surprise, he got up from his seat to take it! I told him that it's a birthday gift for him, since his birthday was just two days later. He actually smiled, and gave me a hug. He said, 'Thank you so much! So sweet of you! Can I open it?'

When he opened it, I told him that I had made it myself especially for him! That was the happiest moment of my life!

'I met SRK at his house'

Rahul Sheldekar: This was sometime in 1989-90, when I was in Std 4 or 5. It was just after Shah Rukh had starred in the serial, Fauji. It was a Sunday morning, and he was acting in a play called Idiot. That time he had come to shoot at this place in Opera House, in the same lane as my home.

Seeing someone in real life who had appeared in front of the TV was a great experience. With my two brothers, I kept calling out 'Fauji, Fauji!' He looked up and waved. I saluted him and he returned my salute.

Further, I remember that it was the month of January and Mr Khan was flying kites from the house across the road. He used to smoke a lot, and I liked his style of smoking. Today, I feel happy when my friends say that I smoke the same way Mr Khan does.

I am also fond of his style of greeting people. He shakes hands, then kisses his fingers and touches his forehead. I tried to copy that style but unluckily, it does not suit me.
Anyway, Mr Khan if you read this and remember any of it, it would be a great pleasure for me.

Shamaila Khan: I interviewed Shah Rukh when he came to London to promote Devdas with Aishwarya Rai. He was very charming though he was chain-smoking. It was great to meet him. Happy 40th birthday, Shah Rukh!

Weda: It was August 21, 2004, during the Temptations Concert in Ahoy (Rotterdam). Like all his other fans, it was also my dream to see Shah Rukh in person.

My brother decided to get in touch with the concert organiser to arrange a meeting with SRK, for me.

The organiser guaranteed that I would get to meet Shah Rukh. But when we went to the concert, they pretended that they knew nothing about my meeting with Shah Rukh. When I heard that I couldn't meet Shah Rukh, I started crying.

The show started at 9 pm, and my family was attending the concert with me. I couldn't believe my eyes when Shah Rukh came on stage. Everybody was screaming with joy, except me: I was just crying. People were standing in front of me, and I couldn't see anything. So my brother took me to the front. I was so close to Shah Rukh! But I refused to leave the venue without meeting SRK.
'Fauji's sitting in 2nd class bogie'

We were standing close to the hall where the actors were changing costumes. I saw Shah Rukh running into the hall. We screamed his name but he couldn't hear us because of the noise. I had bought a gift for Shah Rukh, and my brother asked a security man to give the gift to Shah Rukh. He saw me crying and said, 'I'll make sure you can give it yourself.'

I waited to see this man again, but he was gone. Suddenly, I saw Shah Rukh's wife Gauri standing next to us. She saw me crying and ran into the hall to get Shah Rukh for me. I felt my heart thudding! After a few seconds, I saw him coming out of the hall. Gauri pointed me out to him, and he walked towards me.

But I just couldn't look at him! I was crying with my hand in front of my face. He kneeled down and took my hand away from my face. I couldn't say a word!

Then Shah Rukh hugged me! It was the most beautiful moment in my life!

He wanted to see me backstage after the show. We went, and I saw Shah Rukh with his son Aryan. He said, 'I will go and change, then I'll come back to you.'

We waited for about half an hour and then he came. I gave him my gift. He was so close; he looked straight into my eyes and thanked me. Then he kissed my hand!

Aryan was standing next to him. He is so sweet, just like his dad.

I didn't get the opportunity to thank Gauriji for what she did for me. I hope someday I will get a chance to thank her.

Dipti Khilnani: Yes, I have met SRK! It was in March, 1995, on a holiday.

I was in school. SRK's film Deewana had just released but he wasn't as famous yet.

But I was too excited about him! I was with my cousins, playing Holi at the Gateway Of India (in Mumbai), when I saw him entering the Taj hotel. I ran behind him.

The gatekeeper didn't let us go in at first, as we were in dirty clothes. SRK was sitting down for dinner with his wife, Gauri, and 10 female models.

I managed to grab a paper and pen from the waiter, and asked for his autograph. SRK asked me my name but I just kept staring at him. Finally, I told him my name. I still have that autograph framed in my room.
