After the unprecedented success of Arundhati and a part-period Magadheera, a super hit 1978 Telugu film is being remade in Tamil and Telugu.
The film in question is Jaganmohini, a mythological that made waves when it was first made in Telugu and later dubbed in Tamil.
The film featuring Jayamalini and Narasimha Raju was directed by Vittalacharya. Jaganmohini with its special effects scared many and was way ahead of times. It is said that this film was more successful than the films of NTR and ANR at that time.
Now in 2009, cinematographer-turned-director N K Viswanathan is remaking this movie with sex bomb Namitha and Telugu actor Raja in the lead. Music maestro Ilayaraja scores the music.
Recently at the launch of the trailer, Namitha said, "When Viswanathan sir narrated the script I wasn't sure about the film's success as it had a very ancient concept. But I became convinced of his decision while shooting. I must say the entire team encouraged me to perform well."
So, will the 2009 version of Jaganmohini be as successful as the 1978 one? We'll just have to wait and see.
