Ketan Mehta's long-delayed film Rang Rasiya is up for release.
The Randeep Hooda-Nandana Sen starrer has music by Sandesh Shandilya and lyrics by Manoj Muntashir.
Since the film is a period saga, one expects the music to have a strong classical setting.
Kirti Sagathiya begins the title track Rang Rasiya, which is very appealing. It goes beyond the devotional setting it is set in. Sunidhi Chauhan joins in and is proficient as ever.
The song is a good combination of melody and lyrics. Sunidhi and Kirti are in sync with each other. The song has a 'remix' version too.
Sunidhi Chauhan also sings Kahe Sataye, which also has a classical base. Roopkumar Rathod joins Sunidhi behind the mike for this love song with some heavy duty lyrics.
Kahe Sataye is very different from the much more contemporary song with the same title heard in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak but it is well suited to the setting and mood of Rang Rasiya.
Kamini has more pathos and sticks to the classical mood of the soundtrack. It is rendered by Sonu Nigam. It’s not one of his best, but fits into the soundtrack.
Kailash Kher could be expected to join in for a film that narrates episodes from a bygone era. Kailash and Anwar render Anhad Naad in a mood that compliments the film. The song is unlikely to be a chartbuster but could well help to take the film's narrative forward.
Same is the case with Sun Balam, a classical rendition by Rajashwari Pathak and is the last song of the album.
Rang Rasiya’s music is not memorable, but it is suitable for a period film.
