After Varma’s grand-daughter objected to the film’s content, the court demanded a disclaimer be added before the film’s credit titles, stating that the film has no connection with the personal life of Raja Ravi Varma.
Says a source close to the film, "The dispatch of all prints of Rang Rasiya was stopped. The following disclaimer has been added: 'This film is a dramatised version of the novel Raja Ravi Varma by Ranjit Desai and does not claim to be a true story. This film pays homage to art and artists and does not intend to malign the image of any person living or dead.'
Director Ketan Mehta is no stranger to his biopics getting embroiled in controversies.
Mountain Man, the bio-pic on Bihar’s Dashrath Manjhi, who built a road by hand from his village through rocky mountains, was hurdled by the subject’s family and by other filmmaker claiming to have filming rights. Ketan finally triumphed.
Rang Rasiya stars Nandana Sen and Randeep Hooda (in the picture).
