Which film are *you* looking forward to?

As two of the hottest young Malayalam heroes come face to face on the marquee, an interesting battle is in the offing.

Fahadh Faasil plays an aspiring filmmaker in Abi Varghese’s Monsoon Mangoes, while Prithviraj plays an alcoholic, in G Marthandan’s Paavada.

Here is a closer look at the films.

Monsoon Mangoes

Director: Abi Varghese
Cast: Fahadh Faasil, Iswarya Menon

Fahadh Faasil, who is making a comeback of sorts, plays D P Pallikkal in Abi Varghese’s Monsoon Mangoes.

The film, earlier titled Bourbon Street, was shot in the United States.

Iswarya Menon is the heroine. Vijay Raaz, Tovino Thomas and Vinay Forrt form the rest of the cast.

Abi Varghese shot into fame co-directing the television sitcom Akkarakkazhchakal.

Monsoon Mangoes, produced under the banner of Kayal Films, has camera by Lukasz Pruchnik and music by Jakes Bejoy.

Paavada

Director: G Marthandan
Cast: Prithviraj, Anoop Menon, Miya

With four hits last year, Prithviraj is on a dream run.

Director G Marthandan’s Paavada revolves around the unlikely friendship between an alcoholic named Joy (Prithviraj) and a professor named Babu Joseph (Anoop Menon).

"Joy is an alcoholic, who blames his past as an excuse for his addiction. Paavada is a fun film, but at the same time, it’s not just a fun film," says Prithviraj.

Miya plays Prithviraj’s wife in the film.

Paavada has been produced by Maniyanpillai Raju. Pradeep Nair is the cinematographer and the music director is Aby Tom Cyriac.
