In a condolence message to his daughter, Smt. Shumita Deb, the President said, “In the passing away of Shri Manna Dey, the nation has lost a veteran playback singer, a versatile artist of extraordinary ability and a creative genius who mesmerized listeners with his enchanting voice. The unique style of singing of this multi-talented singer shall always be remembered. The melodious songs sung in several languages that he has left behind will continue to enthrall music lovers forever”.
Union Minister Manish Tewari also condoled the death of playback singer Manna Dey, describing him as a legend who enthralled a whole generation. "Deepest condolences on the sad demise of Manna Dey. His voice and unique style enthralled a whole generation. Another legend has left us," the Information and Broadcasting Minister tweeted.
Dey, 94, passed away at a Bengaluru hospital early today after a prolonged illness.
Dey will be cremated at 12.30 pm at the Hebbal grounds today, October 24.
