Does Salman deserve the Rajiv Gandhi award?

August 13, 2007

Salman Khan is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol on September 28, 2002, and driving over pavement-dwellers in Mumbai's Bandra area killing one of them on the spot and injuring two others.

The actor was arrested and sent to jail, only to be released after two weeks, but the case is still going on in a Mumbai court.

Before that, he was allegedly involved in poaching endangered blackbucks in Rajasthan, during the shoot of Hum Saath Saath Hain. The judgment in that case is due later this month.

Yet, none of it seemed to matter over his selection for the Rajiv Gandhi Award, which has been conferred on him along with illustrious personalities like NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Indian Express editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta.
