According to sources, the relations were strained between the stunning divas when Kareena was signed on to play Salman Khan’s heroine in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
"After doing back-to-back films with Kabir Khan -- New York and Phantom -- Katrina was like family to Kabir and his wife Mini Mathur. But Salman did not want to do a film with Katrina at this juncture. Besides, Kareena suited the part better. Kabir had no option but to let go of Katrina this time," says a source.
But the ladies have bonded largely because of the common man in their lives -- Ranbir Kapoor.
Is Kareena trying to make her to-be sister-in-law feel welcome in the family?
There is, however, yet another reason for their friendship.
"Katrina is Kareena’s husband Saif’s costar in Phantom. Kareena loves to befriend her husband’s co-stars. Last year, she had become close with Ileana D'Cruz, when she was working in Happy Ending. Ileana, a fabulous cook, would invite Kareena and Saif to her home for cakes and bakes. She would go to the couple's home for meals as well. The friendship lasted until the film’s release," says the source.
When quizzed about her friendship, Kareena shot back, "Why not? Katrina is a sweet girl and my husband’s co-star."
