Star Wars fans belong to a whole different breed, and normality is usually beyond their imaginative grasp. So a lifetime achievement Oscar won't quite do for the geek's filmmaking overlord.

ShoWest, an annual convention of Las Vegas theatre owners is presenting George Lucas with a Galactic Achievement Award!

ShoWest representatives have announced they intend to commemorate the enormous impact and influence Star Wars has had over the decades on audiences and popular culture. The honour is being presented on March 17, two months before the new -- and final -- film of the saga, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith.

Lucas has repeatedly mentioned that after this film, he'd like to revisit smaller films again, like his 1971 debut, THX 1138.

Revenge Of The Sith opens in US theatres on May 19.
