Hot Seat: Amisha Patel
March 03, 2004 11:53 IST
The new millenium saw Amisha Patel making her debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.

The film went on to become 2000's biggest success.

To think it almost didn't happen. Amisha was not the original choice for Sonia's role. Kareena Kapoor was to star in the film. But thanks to some differences between her mother Babita and Roshan Sr, she walked out.

Kareena's loss turned out to be Amisha's gain.

2003. History repeats itself.

Aishwarya Rai's unceremonious exit from Ketan Mehta's The Rising lead the makers to Amisha's door. Replacing Ash in this hyped period drama co-starring Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji and British actor Toby Stephens, has turned Amisha the cynosure of all eyes. The actress is reportedly demanding a whopping Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million) as remuneration.

The Rising is not Amisha's first attempt at a period film. She played a Muslim girl, Sakina, in Anil Sharma's superhit Partition drama Gadar - Ek Prem Katha.

Besides The Rising, Amisha's forthcoming releases include Zameer (Ajay Devgan, Mahima Chaudhary), Mere Jeevan Saathi (Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor) and Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai (Bobby Deol, Arjun Rampal).
