Ellen DeGeneres made for a refreshing change as the Oscar host after a rather dull outing by actor-comedian Billy Crystal in 2012 and the less than stellar performance of Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane from last year.
Sure, there were no musical turns or elaborate sketches
but sometimes, keeping it simple is the way to go.
