September 12, 2014 09:14 IST

Malayalam film Drishyam directed by Jeethu Joseph with Mohanlal, Meena and Asha Sarath in the lead roles, was one of the most successful films in the history of Malayalam cinema.

The taut screenplay, unusual story and edge of the seat moments made the film an unforgettable experience for viewers. No wonder the film was remade in other languages.

The Telugu version had Venkatesh and Meena in the lead. The eagerly awaited Tamil versiontitled Papanasam, is almost ready, with Kamal Haasan as the lower middle class cable TV operator, a role perfectly played by Mohanlal in the original.

Though the other remakes were directed by different directors, Jeethu Joseph has opted to direct Kamal Haasan.

The actor's partner Gowthami comes back to act in a film after many years, as Kamal's wife, the role originally played by Meena.

Asha Sarath, who was superb as the IPS officer in the original, plays the same role in the Tamil version.

The producers are Suresh Balaje, George Pius and Rajkumar Sethupathy.
