Rumours of an 'NSync reunion surfaced last month when Timberlake got together with former band-mates J C Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone to sing the national anthem at a charity event in Miami. But People magazine has since reported that Timberlake, who launched an evidently brighter solo career since he parted ways with his teen pop band in 2002, has no interest in cutting another album with his old pals.
Ignoring counsel from industry pundits, Timberlake cut his solo album Justified while he was still a member of 'NSync. The gamble worked in his favour. The hip-hop flavoured album, which has a star cast of guests including Brian McKnight, Janet Jackson, Timbaland and Bubba Sparkxxx, was produced by the Neptunes.
Last year his performance at the Superbowl halftime show with Jackson, who he was reportedly dating at the time, created a furore after Jackson's breast was accidentally exposed.
News is afoot that he is now set to marry actress Cameron Diaz.
With his soft-edged, sexually charged vocals in his Cry me a river and Take it from here, Timberlake has on more than one occasion been compared to Michael Jackson. Never again, a song from the same album that apparently alludes to his break-up with Britney Spears, also placed him a notch above 'NSync. Critics, praising Justified, wrote that Timberlake was better off on his own.
'Justin said he's not in the mood and doesn't think it will work,' People reported its source as saying. 'He doesn't want any part of it.' The magazine also said Timberlake and the band are not on speaking terms and speculated that the band's plans for a new album may be shelved.
