How does one make Sushant Singh Rajput jump over Kolkata's Howrah Bridge so vividly?
Bidhan Baidya of Grinning Tree shows us exactly how it's done, in his sketches below:
Beautiful, isn't it?
Baidya explains that they wanted to create a feeling of ominous danger by making Sushant's young and dynamic Detective Byomkesh Bakshy jump over the Howrah Bridge in order to escape from the Japanese bombers (the film is set in 1943 during World War 2).
While trying to bring the 1940s Calcutta to life, Baidya and his team referenced leading illustrators of that age like Narayan Debnath, Pratul Chandra Bandyopadhyay and Mayukh Choudhury, who created original characters like Detective Koushik Roy and Aguntuk. Shuktara magazine and Indrajaal Comics also helped them create the feeling of intrigue.
Subrata Gangopadhyay's work on the Kakababu stories for Ananda Publishers and Samir Sarkar's work for Desh also inspired Baidya in his creations.
Baidya has also recognised Bikash Bhattarcharya's influence on the shadow play that they have brought to the project.
Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy will release on April 3.
