Hollywood seems to have become more lenient with its movies.
According to the New York Daily Times, films rated PG-13 (parental guidance for children under 13) nowadays have the same dose of sex, violence, and obscene language as those that received an R (Restricted) rating a decade ago.
The study conducted by Harvard researchers included 1,269 films.
To cite some examples, the Tom Cruise-starrer Minority Report was given a PG-13 rating, but included scenes of a woman being strangled to death and eyeballs in a sandwich bag.
The recent Spider-Man 2 had a scene in which the villain Doc Ock crushed someone's skull.
The comedy Dodgeball, again rated PG-13, included sexual scenes.
