Piku, Gabbar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan: BIGGEST summer releases of 2015

A look at the potential blockbusters this summer.

Bollywood films have not had a cash-rich year so far. But some big summer releases are waiting in the wings.

Here’s a look:


Gabbar Is Back
Releases May 1


 

Akshay Kumar reaches out to the masses yet again after Rowdy Rathore with this masala entertainer.

The film is said to be different from the Tamil original and the teasers have created some buzz.

USP: Akshay Kumar comes with the critical and commercial success of Baby behind him. Besides, the original Tamil film, Ramanaa, was a big hit.


Mastizaade
Releases May 1

 

A risque adult comedy, Mastizaade may make films like Kya Kool Hain Hum and Masti look tame.

Starring Tusshar Kapoor, Sunny Leone and Vir Das in central roles, the film boasts of a lot of skin show and sexy jokes.

USP: Sunny Leone's oomph and Milap Zaveri's dialogues.


Piku 
Releases May 8


 

Being a Shoojit Sircar project, Piku looks like a sweet, fun film with many heart-warming moments.

Deepika Padukone appears in a different avatar and her camaraderie with her onscreen dad Amitabh Bachchan should be fun to watch. Irrfan Khan also stars in the film.

USP: Director Shoojit Sircar has two acclaimed success to his credit -- Vicky Donor and Madras Café.


Bombay Velvet
Releases May 15


 

A period film with a Hollywood treatment, Bombay Velvet is high on glitz, glamour and grandeur.

Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar play the main characters in Anurag Kashyap's mega movie project.

USP: Anurag Kashyap's biggest film ever.


Tanu Weds Manu Returns 
Releases May 29


 

After the delightful first film, the sequel is expected to be fun and heartwarming too.

USP: Audiences loved and remember the Tanu and Manu of the first film and will be looking forward to their return. Also, Kangana just won a National award for Queen!


Welcome Back 
Releases May 29


 

This one promises to be a rollicking comedy that will revive the magic of director Anees Bazme's Welcome.

USP: A galaxy of stars -- Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar and Shruti Haasan. Bigg Boss' Sambhavna Seth (in the picture) also stars.


Phhir Se
Tentative release -- May/June


 

Phhir Se is a romantic film, with great locales.

Director Kunal Kohli will hope to prove his mettle as an actor.

USP: A hardcore romantic film which sees the big screen debut of TV actress Jennifer Winget.


Dil Dhadakne Do
Releases June 5


 

A film that has class written all over it, thanks to Zoya Akhtar's able directing skills and exotic locations. And a terrific cast too -- Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah.

USP: A terrific cast that spans two generations.


Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani 
Releases June 12


 

The Dirty Picture couple Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan will star here as well.

Rajkummar Rao is also expected to shine in his meaty role.

USP: Director Mohit Suri is expected to score another hit after Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain.


ABCD - Any Body Can Dance 2 
Releases June 19


 

This one takes forward the story of Remo D'Souza-directed dance film ABCD, which was a surprise hit.

Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor will show some major dance moves and skills.

USP: Acclaimed choreographer Remo D'Souza returns to direction.


Guddu Rangeela
Releases July 3


 

Acclaimed comic actor Arshad Warsi may well bring the house down with his antics in this interesting looking Subhash Kapoor film.

USP: Arshad Warsi and Subhash Kapoor reunite after the award-winning Jolly LLB.


Hero Remake
Releases July 3


 

A remake of the hit Jackie Shroff starrer Hero, the new film stars first timers Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty.

USP: Director Nikhil Advani in charge of launching newcomers for a Subhash Ghai potboiler.


Bajrangi Bhaijaan
Releases July 16


 

A mass entertainer, especially perfect for an Eid release.

Salman Khan is reported to be trying something different with his new potential blockbuster though. 

USP: Salman Khan and Kabir Khan come together after Ek Tha Tiger.


Bangistan
Releases July 31


 

Riteish Deshmukh returns to playing the funny man after a villainous outing in Ek Villain.

Pulkit Samrat, who impressed with his comic timing in Fukrey, should be fun in this one too.

USP: The film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.


Drishyam remake
Releases July 31

 

 

A taut suspense thriller that tells an original story starring Ajay Devgn, this South remake is directed by Nishikant Kamat.

Kamat has previously directed Mumbai Meri Jaan and Force.

USP: The Malayalam original was impressive.
