The Malayalam film industry is stunned by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s provocative tweets in which he compared Mammootty and his son Dulquer Salmaan, much to the detriment of the former.

After watching Mani Ratnam’s latest release O Kadhal Kanmani starring Dulquer Salmaan, he tweeted:

‘Jst saw Mani's film and if the award commitee members have any sense they will take back all awards of Mamooty and give it to his son’ (sic).

There was more in the same vein: ‘Mammootty is a junior artiste compared to his son’ and ‘Mammootty should learn acting from his son… I mean realistic’.

He also tweeted his prediction about Dulquer’s future: ‘Mamootys son will make Kerala proud in the non Kerala markets in just years which Mamooty couldn't do for decades’

Given the near venerable stature Mammootty enjoys, RGV’s tweets created quite a storm in Kerala. The filmmaker’s remarks met with much criticism on social media.

Dulquer Salmaan came to his father’s defense in a well-written Facebook post: ‘In ten lifetimes I won't be one millionth the actor my father is, no matter what I accomplish.’

Mammootty, whose latest release as a hero, Bhaskar The Rascal, came out only days before the release of his son’s film, is yet to respond!
