Hamari Adhuri Kahani reportedly tells the story the saga of an abused wife, who breaks away from her oppressive marriage to find love with another man.

The film has been cleared by the Censor Board in time for its release on June 12, with a 'U' certificate. And it has got no cuts.

This despite the fact that CBFC guidelines state that violence against women -- not even a slap -- would not be allowed.

Says the CBFC’s chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani, "We've repeatedly stressed that every film would be evaluated and certified individually and according to individual content. Agreed that violence against women is not allowed. But if the theme is dealt with sensitively, we are not rigidly opposed to any mirror-image of a social reality."

The film stars Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao in pivotal roles.
